Hey, I’ve missed you.
And I’d love to see you.
In fact, I’ve got a great, blog-resurrecting idea on how to achieve that. Why not join me this coming Monday when I have the pleasure of moderating this event:
In case you’ve forgotten, we’ve had a couple of lively debates on usage rates and standardization on this blog here and here. Without a doubt, this is a pertinent discussion for our times. On Monday, you will have an opportunity to hear Image Buyers and Image Producers hash out the current state of affairs in our industry and how it applies to image licensing in particular.
As you will recall, I like anything that has a community-building component and this event accelerates that effort but requires broad participation (registration is already over 100 and shows a range of vested interests: Photographers, Reps, Art Buyers etc. from all across the country- there’s a webcast option and I’m able to take questions remotely). This discussion needs you.
Also, as part of Monday’s agenda, Jeff Sedlik, co-founder of The PLUS Coaltion will talk about PLUS (Picture Licensing Universal System) and explain it’s centrality to any effort to simplify commercial image licensing in Canada.
By way of explanation, from the PLUS website:
The PLUS Coalition is an international non-profit initiative on a mission to simplify and facilitate the communication and management of image rights. Organized by respected associations, leading companies, standards bodies, scholars and industry experts, the PLUS Coalition exists for the benefit of all communities involved in creating, distributing, using and preserving images. Spanning more than thirty countries, these diverse stakeholders have collaborated to develop PLUS, a system of standards that makes it easier to communicate, understand and manage image rights in all countries.
As far as I’m concerned, standardized license terms = everyone wins. This event for me is about the discussion. It’s clear that CAPIC is striving for more relevancy and I think that’s worth supporting, whether we touch on the Flickr threat, the uneducated client, shrinking budgets, usage quandries etc. Just join in from wherever you are. Register now.
That’s it. Back to Bell. Hope to see you Monday.
