Ask an Art Buyer: A Promo Review- Recent Arrivals in my Mailbox

by Heather on July 13, 2010

Here’s another video for ya. One little correction, I’m actually not on holiday- I planned to post this last week and then that didn’t work out so my intro is a bit outdated. And the crazy image that I hold up at the end featuring Elmo is called, I Hate Parades, Let’s Get a Drink and it’s from Jeff Minton.

Speaking of videos, Photo Consultant Selina Maitreya is at it again, this time with a series of video challenges for photographers. Check it out here.

Wow so killer thanks again so much for posting this. Just got back from a 2 hr working on Adbase and promos. I also been working really hard on coming up with more promo card ideas to stand out from the thousands art buys get each month.

How do you stand out from all the other promos? I guess thats the question.

very interesting entry again, Heather! i cannot believe the size of the DS promo.
by the way, i came via A Photo Editor, love both blogs, so insightful!

@john, i don’t think you need to worry about how your promos will stand-out, rather focus on making images that show a clear vision and passion.

There is no way to impress everyone out there and get all the jobs, nor should one want to imo. But if you keep focused on shooting what you love and what you believe in and updating people on your work occasionally, your individual style will show through. And next time the style fits a project, people will think of you and will call you. You will also be happier, as a result of shooting what you are most passionate about. Find your niche and be patient.
