HMAb Fundraiser: Physiotherapy

Arrgh… if only I had seen this informative cartoon 6 months ago!

I’m going to talk about me for a few minutes. You see, I’ve been experiencing extremely annoying and mildly debilitating pain in my upper left shoulder for quite some time. Then, a few days ago, it almost seized up.

Here’s the thing: the first thought I had when I felt that intense pain radiate up my neck was: “If this seizes up, I won’t be able to Blog”. Nobody wants that so I promptly booked myself some Physiotherapy. Now, despite our fantastic health care system, Physiotherapy isn’t covered by OHIP. So I’ve resorted to involving you directly in my recovery.

I figure if everyone who’s ever had a question answered by the Blog gave a lousy $10, my shoulder problem would be fixed for good, and maybe I’d even be able to buy a proper desk and chair so that I don’t have to settle for the couch and a precarious batch of pillows.

As Mark Tucker discussed in a recent post, most of us intuitively think the web should be free right? On the other hand, I know (because you tell me and I do SO appreciate hearing it) that many of you really value the time I put into this Blog. Here’s a chance for you to reward this good content- if you donated a fraction of what you spend on your Archive subscription, I’d be just fine.

Ultimately, I’ve planned some great content for the next couple of weeks- whether it gets posted depends on the health of my shoulder:

Chris Buck and I discuss the production process that lead to his recent fantastic Diesel campaign (shared with two other photographers)
• I’ve got an interview with uber rep Maureen Martel about how to tell if a photographer has real commercial potential, just from looking at his/her images.
• Photographer Clay Stang has offered an article entitled Background Leading to Foreground about his transition from small market to big market and how he had to adjust his thinking in order to achieve success.
• A new bi-weekly feature in which you get to air your gripes about the industry- not just a bitch session but a chance to improve our working conditions and relationships. This is geared at assistants, stylists, digi techs etc.
• The highs and lows of shooting tethered.

So, if you’ve read anything on here over the last two years that has helped or inspired you in any way, please think about giving a little bit back. It’s easy- just click on the Donate button over there to the left and pay what you can. It is greatly appreciated. My shoulder thanks you.

Girl – you’re blogging while sitting on a couch?! I’ll donate to getting you a proper desk&chair ( or the physio-equally important purchases)!

If your blog were to be published on the newstands the price tag would certainly not read “free ninety nine”. I’d be happy to contribute…uhm, how do I contribute? Is there some paypal action I’m not aware of?

Cheers and thanks for all the great reads,
Mike
