Debut Video: Derek Shapton’s HERE

You might remember that I featured a new Fine Art series called here by Derek Shapton in the Lounge a few weeks ago. Well I thought it would be interesting to take Derek back to the locations he photographed, where his memories were made, and make a little film about it:

Derek’s show opened yesterday as a featured exhibit for Contact at the Gladstone, 1214 Queen West in TO. It runs through the 31st of May so get down to see it when you can. And don’t forget the Festival’s opening party at Brassaii (461 King St. West) tonight (Friday), 7pm to midnight.

I had a quick preview of Derek’s show today and the Gladstone was already a-humming with many international guests (portfolio reviewers, lecturers, workshop leaders, panel dignitaries etc.) arriving and then departing on the arm of various and sundry to tour the galleries. It’s going to be a busy month. And what better way to kick it all off than with a little film.

So, thanks to all (2 of you) who helped with the vid- this is the first in a series. I think I’ll call the project Moving Still. Catchy, no?

The video brought back memories of me breaking my collar bone jumping off a dirt pile on a bike borrowed from a friend, June 1980 in Dollard des Ormeaux, Que.

Hey Heather, BIGFUN, what, the melding of media. Funny how video seems to modulate photographs so well. I’ll bet you loved getting out of the house to make the vid.

And, re: Moving Still. Catchy, yes.
