Fever

by Heather on April 9, 2008

I’ve got a fever so I’m going to keep it brief tonight and insist that if you don’t know Flak Photo, you should.

Flak Photo is a photography blogzine featuring distinctive work from an international community of contributors that promotes interesting visual approaches to seeing the world and celebrates the art of exhibiting quality photography online. The blog is produced by Andy Adams and features work from new photo essays, book projects and gallery exhibitions from established and emerging photographers. Flak Photo is updated frequently, attentively edited and open to submissions from the general public.

It’s a lovely looking site with lots of great work and interesting projects in the offing. And there’s new work on the site every day. This photo was the Flak Photo of the Day from yesterday. I think it coincided nicely with my post on disturbing personal work:

And here’s something for you to ruminate on while I take the rest of the night off:

As an interesting follow up to my post on Motherhood, which used two father-photographer examples and the reference to Timothy Archibald in yesterday’s post, Max Gerber responded today on his blog, questioning whether:

is it different if you’re a mother rather than a father? are clients more willing to accept that you might have a life as a human being outside of or aside from photography? seems unfair.

He sums up his post by saying:

It’s difficult enough already trying to make a living as a photographer. are we supposed to not have families on top of it all?

Ah, duh, of course we’re not. And we’re also not supposed to get sick.

Those look like Dangerous Dan’s burgers! For those of you not in Toronto: “Collosal Colon Clogger Combo”

hmm. . . Well initially I was going to comment that I sound kind of whiney out of context (and likely IN context as well), but then I got distracted by the picture of the giant hamburger and now I’m just hungry instead. And sort of disgusted. (By the giant hamburger, not the discussion on photography and parenthood.)

I kind of always thought that with the nature of my job, working at home, that parenthood might be easier than if I had to go to an office all day. Maybe that’s not true, though. My parents worked at home, and my brother and I would bug them endlessly during the day, totally oblivious to the fact that they were on the phone. Thinking of it now, I wonder if that made things difficult for them with their clients? Unlike photographers, though, they never complained.
